There, we will take the train that will take us to Aguas Calientes, where we will have breakfast (not included) and take advantage of buying water and a snack before boarding the bus that will take us to the citadel of Machu Picchu. Here, we will begin a 1-hour tour with our guide, in which we will have information about the construction and what each of the spaces that today make up this archaeological site were used for. Then we will have free time to take the last pictures and tour the citadel, before starting the return to be half an hour before the departure of the train at the Aguas Calientes station. We will arrive at Ollantaytambo, from where we will board a vehicle that will take us back to the historic center of Cusco.

NOTE: It is not possible to climb any mountain, Machu Picchu mountain or Huayna Picchu, because the visit to the citadel is carried out from the second turn, which does not admit climbing the mountains.

Visit to the archaeological site

To enter to Machu Picchu archaeological site, you must have the so-called Llaqta Machu Picchu entrance ticket. Remember that, in case you select a program without entrance fee, you can buy it in the Ministerio de Cultura website.

The entrance will give you access to the archaeological site following one of its 4 circuits, which you will have to choose once you are in the citadel entrance:

  • Circuit 1: upper and lower part of the archaeological site, as well as the area of terraces and terraces for 3 hours.

  • Circuit 3: lower part of the archaeological site that includes agricultural zone, Temple of the Sun, House of the Inka and the archaeological reserve for 1 hour and a half.
  • Circuit 4: lower part of the archaeological site that includes agricultural zone, Temple of the Sun, House of the Inka, Sacred Rock and water mirrors for 2 hours and a half.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

I already have my entrance ticket to Machu Picchu purchased. Is it possible to reserve the program deducting the entrance from the total price?

Yes. To make the reservation this way, you must write to us at reservas@greattripworld.com, indicating the number of people traveling and the date they want to start the program, and we will send you the corresponding quote along with instructions for booking.

How long does the visit to Machu Picchu last?

The visit lasts for three hours. In the first hour, a guided tour of the citadel will take place. Then, you will have the rest of the time to explore the citadel freely.

What documents do I need to prove that I am a student?

The student discount is valid as long as you are a maximum of 25 years old. Similarly, it is valid if, at the time of booking, you send us a copy or photo of your university ID. This must have the following information:

Machu Picchu is located between the Andes and the Amazon rainforest, with a warm and temperate climate, with an average minimum temperature of 12°C and an average maximum temperature of 24°C. From April to October is the dry season, meaning there is a lower probability of rain during that period, while from November to March is the rainy season, meaning there is a higher probability of rain during that period. However, despite the mentioned differentiation, there is a possibility of rain every day of the year, as it is a subtropical zone.

Is it possible to add a night of accommodation in Aguas Calientes and return to Cusco one day after the tour is finished?
